What Are Environmental Digital Twins?
Professor Johnsen’s talk explored the concept of Environmental Digital Twins—digital models that replicate natural environments in real-time. These models continuously mirror the structure and behaviour of physical systems, enabling stakeholders to make data-driven decisions for environmental management, scenario analysis, and system optimisation.

The presentation highlighted how digital twins differ from traditional models and control systems. Professor Johnsen demonstrated how they integrate live data, semantic technologies, and simulation models to enhance decision-making. He also shared examples from his research, including an ongoing project on a digital twin of the Oslo fjord, illustrating how domain knowledge and physical simulators can be combined to create a robust framework for environmental monitoring.
Introduction by dScience Centre Leader Morten D?hlen
The seminar was introduced by dScience Centre leader Morten D?hlen, who welcomed the audience and provided context for the session before handing the floor over to Professor Johnsen.
