Highflying Academics: A breakfast discussion

What role does academia play in reducing the number of flights? Is it possible to have an international career without being a flying academic? The Green Office is hosting a breakfast-panel discussion on academic flying!

The University of Oslo's 2022 climate report revealed that air travel was the fourth-largest contributor to the university's emissions, accounting for 18% of the total. Of these travel emissions, 92% were from academic flights. This means that roughly 16.5% of the university's total emissions were due to flying. 

The solution is easy enough, academics have to fly less. However, when data collection, seminars, networking and research collaborations happen across borders, this equation becomes far more challenging.  

To discuss these challenges, the Green Office is hosting a breakfast-panel discussion. In this discussion we will ask the panel; what role does academia play in reducing the number of flights, who are responsible for flying less, is it possible to have an international carrier without being a flying academic, and what is the way forward?
