The Climate and Green Campus group works to make the campus greener, more biodiverse and more sustainable, and to make it easier for students and staff at UiO to make environmentally conscious choices. To achieve these goals, we offer opportunities to repair clothes and to choose second-hand rather than buying new, and we collaborate with the parks section and others at UiO to improve biodiversity on campus.
Focus in 2025
1. Increase reuse, repair and creativity through the repair café, swap evenings and the free corner.
2. Increase biodiversity through rooftop gardens, seed libraries and showcasing best practices from the parks section.
3. Promote the lending library.
Active initiatives
Gratishj?rnet
In order to contribute to a circular economy and a system other than capitalism's demand for profit, we have a corner in the Green Office where you can get new clothes, books and other things. You can also drop by to donate clothes and other items if you have something left over that you want to give a new home.
Biodiversity on campus
We work to increase biodiversity on campus by collaborating with other organisations and driving forward projects. These include roof gardens, seed bombs, insect hotels, planting more species on campus and working to cut lawns less and let the green grow.
Repair workshop
The production of textiles and footwear accounts for 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. That's more than aviation and shipping combined.
The Green Office organises repair workshops on the first Friday of every month so that students and staff can extend the life of old or damaged clothes. By repairing what we already have, we reduce the amount of waste each of us produces. We have sewing machines and the equipment you need to repair your textiles.
The seed library
The Seed Library is an offer for students and staff at UiO who want to try their hand at gardening and contribute to increased biodiversity in our city. The Seed Library is located on the first floor of the HumSam library in Georg Sverdrup's house. Read more here.
