Majorstien is an installation that aimed to increase the awareness and frequency of walking between Blindern and Majorstuen as well as increase knowledge of local biodiversity efforts.
The pathway consists of nine directional arrow signs, fourteen wayfinding sings, three explanatory project signs, two informative signs on biodiversity and 250 meters of lighting. The pathway will remain installed until summer 2020, at least, and continues to create awareness of and promote walking and biodiversity. The Agency for Urban Environment staff reported this project has generated new ideas in their team.
Three students: Syvert Tuntland Kr?kenes, Patrick Bolliger og Vilde Slagsvold, developed partnerships with UiO's Park Division and Oslo Science City to create and fund this project. Interestingly, the path crosses land owned by the city and the university, unveiling a type of collaboration that will need to become more common in the development of Oslo Science City.
As a result of their project, more people know about the biodiversity efforts occurring within Oslo Science City, and that walking is a viable alternative to the T-bane for these destinations. The path also now appears in google maps and the route is given as the recommend walking route due to their effort.
