Bachelor's and Master's theses
Standardised templates have been developed for the front covers of Bachelor's and Master's theses. The students create the front cover themselves (go to links for downloads). Templates are available in different profile colours.

Please note: We recommend including the cover as a separate file when you submit your thesis for print.
Is it mandatory to use the template?
The front page templates for Bachelor's and Master's theses are created for the benefit of our students, but there is no general requirement to use them.
Note that some units at UiO have specific guidelines for front pages, and in some cases also their own templates. We recommend checking the relevant course page to see if any specific requirements apply in your case.
Doctoral dissertations
A standardised layout for doctoral dissertations has been developed. The dissertations are set up and printed by the University Graphic Centre. Every year, one image and one profile colour is chosen for all dissertations. The image should be abstract enough to accommodate the whole breadth of academic fields at UiO, and should furthermore thematically relate to the notions of development, motion or insight. Alternative layouts and designs are not permitted.

Compendium
Standardised templates for compendium front pages have been developed, with three separate versions for autumn, spring and summer. The templates are created in black and white, to ensure quick and cost-effective production. The images that are used on the front cover pages are abstract in nature, so as to accommodate a wide array of academic topics, and thematically relate to "compilation and summary".
