Johnny Herre (born 1963 in Sweden) combines academic and practical approaches to law in a formidable way. In 1988 he gained degrees in both law and in business administration and economics, the latter at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE). He gained his doctorate in law at SSE in 1996, and remained here until he in 2010 became a Justice of the Supreme Court in Sweden.
Herre’s work in the Supreme Court is shaped both by his academic career and by a solid practical approach. He has also become one of the foremost Nordic civil arbitration judges, especially in larger commercial cases. He has, for instance, arbitrated in cases concerning gas exports.
At the University of Oslo Herre has had a long-running cooperation with the Faculty of Law. In 2018 he held the first Hagstr?m memorial lecture. He regularly contributes both academically to various seminars and to the day-to-day running of the university through participation in evaluation committees for PhD degrees, professorships and appointments.
