The Anders Jahre Awards for Medical Research honour outstanding research in general and clinical medicine.
The 2021 Main Award winner, Professor Poul Nissen from the University of Aarhus, receives the award for his groundbreaking studies on the structure and function of membrane proteins with key functions in the body. The award winner’s findings are important to the understanding and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, diseases of the brain and cancer. He has developed methods that are now widely used by other researchers.
The prize for winning the award is NOK 1 million.
The 2020 Main Award winners, Professors Jiri Lukas from the University of Copenhagen and Jiri Bartek from The Danish Cancer Society and Karolinska Institutet, receive the award for their groundbreaking work on identifying how proteins involved in the regulation of cell cycles and DNA repair help protect genetic material and prevent cancer from developing. The two award winners are among the most cited researchers in the Nordic region and their research has led to new principles in cancer treatment.
The prize for winning the award is NOK 1 million and will be split equally between the award winners.
The winner of the 2021 Young Researcher Award, Professor Barbara van Loon from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, receives the award for her studies on the cellular response to DNA damage and its impact on cancer and developmental disorders in the nervous system.
The prize for winning the award is NOK 400,000.
The winner of the 2020 Young Researcher Award, Niklas Bj?rkstr?m from Karolinska Institutet, receives the award for his discoveries of how NK cells develop and function in physiological and pathological situations, especially in viral and malignant liver disease.
The prize for winning the award is NOK 400,000.
The awards will be presented in the University Auditorium on 4 November at 18:00.
The ceremony is open to all but registration is required.
