This year's main prize winner, Professor Carl-Henrik Heldin receives the award for his pioneering contribution to understanding the relationship between cell growth factors and cancer. Heldin is one of the most cited researchers in the Nordic countries, and his research has led to new principles in cancer treatment.
The prize for younger researchers is shared between Jenny Mj?sberg and Lars Tjelta Westlye.
Mj?sberg receives the award for her study of a newly discovered cell type in the immune system that contributes to allergies and inflammatory diseases, while Westlye receives the award for his contributions towards understanding how innate characteristics and personality traits can explain predisposition to mental disorders.
The awards will be bestowed upon the winners at a ceremony.
