– I am glad that people have engaged in the election campaign, that people have voted, and that I have had wonderful colleagues as our candidates, allowing us to have a genuine election campaign, says newly elected rector Ragnhild Hennum.
Hennum is currently the dean of the Faculty of Law and has extensive experience from the University of Oslo.
– This will be an important and comprehensive job that we must undertake together with the staff and students at the University of Oslo, Hennum continues.
Ragnhild Hennum was elected with 53 percent of the vote.
Hanne Flinstad Harbo got 31 percent of the vote, while Giske Ursin got 16 percent.
Students and staff have been able to vote in the election. The votes of students are weighted at 25 percent, while those of employees are weighted at 75 percent.
Hennum got a majority of the employee vote, and a plurality of the student vote.
The election participation was 60,01 percent for employees, and 16,39 percent for students. This is significantly higher than in the last rector election in 2017.
The new rectorate will take office on August 1.
– I am very proud that we have had a civilised academic discussion with the other teams, and I would like to thank them. We have focused on the university's academic values, which are under pressure. I am proud to be on Ragnhild's team – she is a pillar, says newly appointed pro-rector Bj?rn Jamtveit.
