Unheard of! can be so many things. The Fagerborg Music Festival 2019's opening concert deals with three works that are Unheard of! in their own way.
About the program
The evening's first work is 4'33 '' by John Cage that caused strong reactions when the work was premiered by the composer himself in 1952. The audience witnessed that he sat down by the piano and closed the lid of the keyboard to mark the start of the work. After three movements, all noted "tacet" (one remains silent), he was done.
Cage is inspired by Eastern philosophy and silence and this is what he wants to explore with this composition. Here you have the opportunity to hear sound from the ventilation system, paper from sweets and coughing people, and the audience is challenged by what music really is.
Most of the music through history has been forgotten, but sometimes works have reappeared. This is the case with Hjalmar Borgstr?m's violin concerto in G major. The romantic concert was written in 1914, and due to the combination of the end of romantic period and the start of World War it soon was forgotten.
Eldbj?rg Hemsing and Terje Boye Hansen have worked energetically to bring the lost Norwegian violin concerto into the light and tonight we have the pleasure of hearing it with the ambassadors themselves.
Ludwig van Beethoven was a rebel in the Viennese classical music environment. Never before had one heard such passionate and violent piano performances as Beethoven's, and his personality had entered the history of music for good.
Beethoven's third symphony surprised and shocked the audience. Here he has stretched the symphonic form far beyond what was accepted at this time. Music would never be the same after the premiere.

About the Fagerborg Music Festival
The Fagerborg Music Festival is a new chamber music festival created by young musicians, for a new audience. We want to recruit a new audience to the classical music arena and our goal is to become one of the capital's most dynamic and exciting music arenas.
The festival is initiated by young musicians with a strong commitment to convey the classical music heritage to a younger audience. We present musicians at a very high level, and all concerts have implemented concepts in line with the festival's artistic profile.
The Fagerborg Music Festival is organised by graduating students at Barratt Due Music Institute.
