Oslo Security Conference 2025

This year's Conference is about "Transatlantic Security in an Era of Uncertainty - How Great Power Competition and War Shape the Future European Order".

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the Oslo Security Conference 2025, formerly known as the Leangkollen Security Conference. This year the title is “Transatlantic Security in an Era of Uncertainty - How Great Power Competition and War Shape the Future European Order”.

The transatlantic alliance has long been a pillar of global stability, but its foundations are being tested as geopolitical tensions and war is reshaping global security.

The rise of great power competition and strengthening alliances between authoritarian states are creating a volatile environment for the transatlantic alliance. How is the intensifying U.S.-China rivalry shaping global power dynamics, and how are major players like Russia and India responding?

Moreover, with Donald Trump back in the White House, U.S. foreign and security policy is entering a new phase of recalibrated priorities and unpredictability. What version of America will we see in the years ahead, and what implications will this have on European security and NATO?

It is almost three years since Russia launched its large-scale war on Ukraine. Could Ukraine secure a favourable peace, or will it face concessions such as territorial losses or setbacks in its NATO aspirations? Can Ukraine establish a credible deterrence in Moscow's eyes, and is conventional deterrence alone enough to counter Russia's imperial ambitions and safeguard the broader European order?

The conference will also delve into the strategic significance of NATO’s Northern Flank and the security dynamics of the High North, where Russia remains a critical and unpredictable actor. The need for an updated policy of deterrence is paramount. What steps should NATO, the Nordic region and the UK take to bolster collective defense and resilience? Finally, we will turn to Norwegian security.

What progress has been made since last year’s long-term plan for the Norwegian Armed Forces, and what should the new National Strategy entail, set to be released this spring?

Join us at the Oslo Security Conference 2025 as we bring together leading experts, policymakers, and opinion leaders to explore these critical issues and chart a path forward in these uncertain times.

About the University Aula

On Universitetsplassen in the center of Oslo, there are three beautiful old buildings, and Domus Media is located in the middle. Inside this building is the Aula. The University of Oslo's prestigious banquet hall has been hosting art and cultural experiences for over 100 years, and some of our best performers are still on stage here. The program in the Aula also includes lectures, literary conversations, and "Open Aula". Here, you can explore the 11 original Munch paintings that adorn the hall.
