Why do you want to become UiO's next rector team?
We want to become UiO's next rector team because we aim to transform UiO into a leading international university with a competitive capital base to help address major global societal challenges. Our goal is to position the University of Oslo (UiO) among the top 30 universities in the world within 30 years.
UiO has a strong academic tradition and robust academic environments, but we face economic challenges that require transformation and innovative thinking. We see immense potential in developing the university to become a global leader in excellent teaching, groundbreaking research, innovation, and value creation. We are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to strengthening the university's position as an international top player deeply rooted in values like equality and social responsibility.
What do you think are the biggest challenges facing UiO in the future?
The university must develop a more dynamic financing model to ensure sustainable operations and the ability to attract top researchers, students, and collaborators. As part of this, we must tackle the challenge of ensuring academic freedom and independence while increasing external funding. We need to strengthen UiO's international visibility and influence while further developing robust research and educational environments in an increasingly competitive global sector.
Why is UiO important for society?
UiO plays a crucial role in developing new knowledge, educating tomorrow's leaders, and contributing to solving complex global societal challenges. The university should be a driver for academic innovation, creativity, and value creation. UiO’s curiosity-driven research and its applications have a direct societal impact.
Furthermore, UiO is a foundation for Norway's democracy and civil society through the dissemination of knowledge and values related to academic freedom and critical thinking.
What are your three most important issues, summarized briefly?
- International Positioning: Transform UiO into a global leader in education, research, and innovation, and secure a place among the top 30 universities within 30 years.
- Financial Sustainability: Develop a dynamic financing model that combines public funding with increased external capital through endowments and collaborations with industry, foundations, and international actors.
- Innovation, Value Creation, and Societal Impact: Create an ecosystem that strengthens teaching, research, value creation, and societal impact while maintaining strong basic research environments.
What will UiO look like in 10 years?
In 10 years, we envision UiO as a dynamic and globally recognized institution. UiO will have established itself as a leading player in international teaching, research, and innovation networks. Teaching will be research-based and digitally innovative, with a broad range of strong international collaborative programs. At the same time, we will have a more diversified financial base that provides us with stability and flexibility to invest in excellent research, innovation, value creation, and teaching.
What kind of rector team do you want to be?
We aim to be a strategic and inclusive rector team that bridges different stakeholders within and outside the university. We will listen to and collaborate with staff, students, and external partners to develop UiO. At the same time, we want to be proactive and results-oriented, with a clear focus on elevating UiO to new heights.
Why have you chosen Giske Ursin as rector and Stefan Krauss as pro-rector candidate?
We share the vision of developing UiO into a world-leading university. We both have a unique combination of academic experience, leadership skills, and strong, complementary networks nationally and internationally. Together, we form a team that can enhance UiO's position in all areas, from teaching and research to innovation and community engagement.
Why should UiO employees and students vote for you?
We represent an ambitious and dynamic platform that ensures that UiO can meet future challenges. We have put together a rector team that, for the first time, will also include a technical-administrative employee and a student. We combine strong academic grounding with innovative thinking and a strong commitment to strengthen the university's global position. Through our focus on economic sustainability, research excellence, and social responsibility, we will create a UiO that is an even better place for students and staff, and an even stronger contributor to society.
