Renewal or change of tax card

Tax cards are issued for a specific income year and renewed automatically if you have a permanent ID-number. If your tax card is not renewed, you have to apply for a new one. If your tax card is wrong or your financial situation changes significantly during the year, you should apply for an amendment.

Renewal of tax card

At the end of December every year, taxpayers receive a notification of the tax deduction they will be subjected to in the new income year.

Tax cards are not issued automatically to:

  • persons with a temporary Norwegian identity number
  • persons with a home address abroad
  • persons recently arrived from abroad

Anyone who does not receive this notification must apply for a new tax card (skatteetaten.no).

Note: If UiO has not been able to access your tax card, UiO is obliged to deduct 50% taxes from your salary. The balance will be reimbursed after your tax card has been issued.

Change of tax card

If you believe that your tax card is incorrect, or if your income and/or wealth situation changes significantly in the course of the income year, you should apply to have your tax card changed (skatteetaten.no). This will assure that the correct amount of taxes are withheld by the employer.

Assistance with tax card

Questions concerning the tax card should be addressed to the Norwegian Tax Administration (skatteetaten.no).
