- The process of renewing a residence permit is similar to the process of applying for a first time permit. It is very important that you start the process early and submit the actual application at least one month before your current permit expires. If you apply for a renewal within one month before your current permit expires at the latest, you have the same rights as your current permit. If you apply later than a month before your current permit expires, you are not allowed to work while you wait for the application to be processed.
- Start the process on the webpage Want to renew (udi.no):
- If you have received a letter from UDI with an F-code, follow the F-code track (udi.no).
- Both employees of the University and guest researchers will find the correct track to follow under Work immigration (udi.no):
- Employees follow the Skilled worker track (udi.no)
- Guest researchers follow the Vocational training and research track (udi.no).
- If you have been staying in Norway for three years or more you may qualify for a permanent residence permit instead of a renewal. Explore this option (udi.no).
