The election committee at IMB is looking for candidates for the election of a new head of institute

Heidi Kiil Blomhoff“The most important thing for the committee is to find one or more competent and motivated candidates who have the ability to inspire, motivate and further develop the strong research and teaching at the institute and highlight this,” says Heidi Kiil Blomhoff. The deadline for proposing candidates is Monday 28 August.

Studies

Studies and Admission Requirements 2024nedisinstudiet

Those who will be studying medicine at UiO this autumn have managed to meet the strictest criteria for this study programme in Norway. The point limit for the ordinary quota is 69.7. This is slightly lower than last year.

Early on Friday morning it was announced that the Prime Minister has intervened and that the government is instructing the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) to change the decision to refuse residency.

Research student Sine Grude was Norway’s youth delegate at the WHO General Assembly from 27 May to 1 June. The week was packed with negotiations, procedures, events, panels and meetings.

Briefings

  • MED: Faculty Board Elections: During the autumn of 2024, one representative and two deputy representatives will be elected from temporary academic staff, including temporary adjunct professors.

  • MED: Election of new Head of MedDocs - Doctoral research fellows will vote for the Faculty’s Research Education Committee. The new Head of MedDocs will be elected for one year from 1 January 2025 until 31 December 2025. Candidates must be nominated by 12 noon on 15 August.

  • IMB preparing for the election of a new Head of Institute. The deadline for proposing candidates is Monday 28 August. The online election will be open from 16 September to 20 September. More info is available on IMB's new election website.

  • IMB: Sporveien is undertaking work on the level crossing between 亚博娱乐官网_亚博pt手机客户端登录sparken and Rikshospitalet. The work is scheduled to be completed this week. They are asking pedestrians and drivers to be cautious. In two months, the tram stop at Rikshospitalet will be demolished and a tram replacement bus service will operate for a while. Read more on the institute web page to stay up-to-date with the construction work.

  • UiO: Exercise during working hours: the autumn course schedule is ready. All employees may use 1.5 working hours per week to exercise. Make use of courses offered this autumn semester!

  • UiO: Theatre discount for UiO staff (in Norwegian).Hedda Gabler Nationaltheatret 125 ?r Staff can currently get discounted tickets to one of the greatest Ibsen classics: Hedda Gabler. At the National Theatre in August and September.

  • UiO: The electric car pool is being discontinued (in Norwegian). Since 2009, the University has offered an electric car pool scheme for business travel. This is now being discontinued.

Overview: Upcoming public defence

  • Launch of SFF Integreat. Welcome to the official launch of SFF Integreat - Norwegian centre for knowledge-driven machine learning at UiO, UiT and NR. The event will take place at the university library and will be live streamed.
  • 18 - 20 August: Nordoc summer school at the University of Helsinki. The Nordic PhD summer camp aims to bring together researchers from all health science fields under one roof. See the programme here.

  • 2 September - UiO's Annual Festivities Annual celebration ceremony, with the conferring of honorary doctorates and the presentation of UiO’s awards. Presentation and awarding of the H.M. King's Gold Medal. Presentation of UiO’s sustainability award for best master’s thesis. Register now!
  • 2 September - Honorary doctoral degree lectures at the Faculty of Medicine: Professor Maria da Gra?a Raposo and Professor Richard Hatchett have been awarded Honorary Doctorates at UiO and will be holding lectures in connection with this. Local events will be held the following day.
  • 2 September - Kavli lectures in neuroanatomy will be held in the Large Auditorium at Oslo University Hospital, Rikshospitalet from 9:30am until 1:00pm. Save the date. Read about this year’s award winners.

Apollon: The world’s most modern radiation therapy (in Norwegian). The world’s most modern radiation therapy is now coming to Norway. The first cancer patients will receive treatment in March 2025. 

 

 

CovidHelsam: There is a need for clearer information about the GP service during the pandemic (in Norwegian). Trygve Skonnord and colleagues at the Department of General Medicine have looked at patients’ experiences with their GPs, for themselves and/or their children, during the pandemic.

 

 

Professor Jukka CoranderIMB: Pakistan avoids the super-bacteria from the West (in Norwegian). Professor Jukka Corander leads an international research team that has discovered that antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains common in Norway, the UK and USA have not gained a foothold in Pakistan despite widespread use of antibiotics in the region.

Klinmed: Can natural killer cells contribute to improved cancer treatment? (in Norwegian). Natural killer cells (NK cells) are important to the body’s own defence against cancer. Can we take advantage of these cells when we develop new immunotherapies?
