Research fair on body and mind
Date and Time: 21st September, 10 AM – 3 PM, the Norwegian Museum of Science and Technology
Hosted by MED: Meet brain researchers, look inside the human body with VR glasses, learn about heart research, nutrition, prosthetic production, and how sustainability and health are connected.

Local Final Researcher Grand Prix
The Researcher Grand Prix is the Norwegian championship in research communication. In the local final, ten participants will compete. All ten are from MED. Only two will advance to the national final. Join us and cheer on your favourites at the Escape student basement in the Science Park, on Wednesday 25th September at 6 PM. Places are limited, so remember to sign up (in norwegian)

MED: Faculty Board Elections: During the autumn of 2024, one representative and two deputy representatives will be elected from temporary academic staff, including temporary adjunct professors.

Klinmed: Relocation of UiO areas to Building 10 at Gaustad Hospital (in norweigan). The Skills Centre, reading rooms at Rikshospitalet, and the Medical Library will be located in Building 10 from the end of September.

Klinmed: New opportunities arise: UiO expansion at Radiumhospitalet (in norwegian).
In September, the doors will open to new teaching and research facilities at Radiumhospitalet. These will contribute to advancing education and clinical research in the field of cancer research and strengthen UiO’s position as a leading educational and research institution. -

UB: The Medical library is moving.
The Medical Library at Rikshospitalet is moving to building 10 at Gaustad Hospital due to the construction of the new Rikshospitalet. The library will be closed 18 September–6 October. On this page you will find information about the moving process. -
UiO: Discounted theatre tickets for UiO employees (in norwegian).

Management meetings
- Lederforum: Overview of meeting dates (in norwegian). The next meeting is on tuesday 1 October. Agenda items and documents must be submitted by 12:00 on the last Thursday before the meeting. Minutes of the previous meetings (in norwegian).
- Overview of faculty board meetings and IDF meetings in 2024 (PDF) (in norwegian) with deadlines for submitting cases. The next faculty board meeting will be held on 24 September. Agendas and protocols will be updated here (in norwegian).
- Meetings of the university board 2024 (in norwegian). The meetings are live streamed and open to anyone who would like to attend. The next meeting will take place on 17 and 18 September. See also agendas and minutes from previous meetings.

Keep an eye on the annual calendar for award announcements (in norwegian). There are several announcements currently: Hideyo Noguchi Africa prize, Viking Olov Bj?rk scholarship, the dementia research prize, the heart research prize, the Wolf prize, and the Warren Alpert foundation prize.
Hideyo Noguchi Africa price
This prize deserves some extra attention due to its short deadline (20th September) and its prize amount of around 7 million kroner. The purpose of the prize is to honour individuals or organisations with outstanding achievements in the categories of medical research and medical services to combat infectious diseases and other illnesses in Africa

Overview: Upcoming public defence
- 16 September: TeachMeet (in norwegian). An informal and social arena for professional exchange of experiences. Meet UiO educators who use artificial intelligence (AI) in their teaching. You will have the opportunity to see their examples and hear a brief explanation before the discussion.
- 17 September: Sustiainit at Scene Domus Bibliotheca: Attacks on health care in war.
- 19 September: Opening symposium for the K. G. Jebsen Centre for Brain Fluid Research (LinkedIn).
- 21 September - Research Fair at the Technical Museum (in norwegian), Saturday from 10:00 to 15:00. Additionally, there will be a research fair for school pupils on Friday the 20th, and an informal evening event for 18+ with lectures, discussions, and more, on Thursday the 19th of September.
- 24 September: Welcome breakfast for new international researchers. UiO takes pleasure in inviting all international employees, researchers and Ph.D. candidates who have joined our institution recently to an orientation meeting and common breakfast. At the end of the event, guests may take part in a guided tour of the University Library. Remember to registrer within 20 September.
- 25 September - Researcher Grand Prix, local final from 18:00 to 21:30

Uniforum/ Helsam: Her goal is to prevent cancer (in norwegian). In the future, almost no Norwegian women will develop cervical cancer. Professor Emily Burger, winner of UiO's Prize for Young Researchers, has helped set the course.
Klinmed/ NSSF: New research on self-harm (in norwegian):
"We must intervene at the earliest possible stage when young people self-harm. Don't wait until self-harm becomes severe," advises psychologist specialist Anne Brager-Larsen.
Klinmed/ NSSF: Suicide in Norway - Statistics (in norwegian)
In 2023, 693 people took their own lives - 70 more than in 2022, according to new figures from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health. 7 out of 10 were men.
IMB: A new method for finding all the super bacteria . Harry Thorpe is a senior engineer at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences and the lead author of the study describing a new method in the fight against serious hospital infections. The method provides an overview of several antibiotic-resistant bacteria simultaneously.
Klinmed/ NSSF: The importance of social contact: New podcast on suicide among older men (in norwegian). Suicide among older men is an overlooked public health issue. A new episode in the series "Older & the Psyche" addresses the prevention of loneliness and suicide.
Klinmed/ NSSF: Processing grief in groups: "It often feels good to say things out loud" (in norwegian). Kristiansand municipality gathers those bereaved by suicide around a campfire to talk about grief. A new guide aims to make it easier to start grief groups elsewhere as well.
