Our researchers are doing very well in the competition for funding for new research projects from both the Research Council of Norway and the European Research Council (ERC). In addition, Earth and environmental science at UiO rank 3rd in Europe outside UK.

  • SPARK Europe showcase event

    13–14 March the first ever SPARK Europe showcase event took place in Birmingham.

  • Vacancies: We are hiring!

    We have now announced several positions at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo related to the research project VICCO – VISTA Centre for CO2 Storage in Volcanic-Sedimentary Systems. Application deadline are March/May 2025.

  • Martian mudflows: How a little salt can make a big difference

    Mudflow structures on the Martian surface show a large variety of shapes and unusually long pathways. The red planet's extremely low atmospheric pressure can make the liquid water in the mud unstable, but salinity also plays a role in the mud's formation and flow, according to a new study in Nature Communications.
