Our researchers are doing very well in the competition for funding for new research projects from both the Research Council of Norway and the European Research Council (ERC). In addition, Earth and environmental science at UiO rank 3rd in Europe outside UK.

  • Art meets Permafrost Science: A successful collaboration

    Can permafrost and environmental sciences be showcased in a gallery? Do artists and the art scene contribute to scientists and scientific understanding, and vice versa? The answer is yes. The exhibition "A Feeling of Longing That Freezes and Thaws" was a successful collaboration held at Atelier Nord, Oslo.

  • Current news: New acquisition of E-learning book in Geochemistry at the Science Library

    The Science Library at the University of Oslo (UiO) has now made a significant new acquisition in 2025 of the textbook "Treatise on Geochemistry" as an e-book series. This ensures that staff and students at the Dept. of Geosciences and others have access to an 8-volume digital edition of an important textbook in geosciences and geochemistry.

    13–14 March the first ever SPARK Europe showcase event took place in Birmingham.

    We have now announced several positions at the Department of Geosciences, University of Oslo related to the research project VICCO – VISTA Centre for CO2 Storage in Volcanic-Sedimentary Systems. Application deadline are March/May 2025.
