ERC grants
The European Research Council (ERC) funds outstanding researchers and excellent ideas. The award of a grant from ERC is among the most prestigious funding a researcher can receive. Researchers at UiO have received about 110 grants from the European Research Council (ERC), 49 of them in Horizon 2020, and 41* so far in Horizon Europe.

ERC Starting Grants
- For top researchers with 2 to 7 years experience after PhD
- Grants up to €1.5 million for 5 years
ERC Consolidator Grants
- For top researchers with 7 to 12 years experience after PhD
- Grants up to €2 million for 5 years
ERC Advanced Grants
- For established researchers who have a recent research track-record which identifies them as leaders in their respective field of research
- Grants up to €2.5 million for 5 years
ERC Synergy Grants
- For 2-4 top researchers working together and bringing different skills and resources to tackle ambitious research problems
- Grants up to €10 million for 6 years
ERC Proof of Concept
- For researchers already holding an ERC grant who want to verify the innovation potential of their ground-breaking ERC research
- Grant lump sum of €150 000 for 18 months
