At present UiO:Life Science funds seven convergence environments that address major challenges within life sciences related to health and environment/sustainable growth. A new application round starts now. Researchers from all units at UiO are welcome to participate.
UiO:Life Science shall recruit, educate and develop talents. Before Christmas the initiative announced that students could apply for summer research projects. The board has decided that as many as 66 students will be offered a project in 2018.

The biggest thing that happened in UiO:Life Science in 2017 was of course the announcement of the start-up grant for the life science building on the national budget for 2018! Read about this and other things that has happened in the initiative so far in 2017.
SPARK Norway is a two-year innovation programme to further develop ideas within health-related life sciences for the benefit of patients and society. Researchers from UiO and affiliated research groups at OUS or Ahus can apply UiO:Life Science to be included in the programme.
We had a full house when Shinya Yamanaka, 2012 Nobel Laureate in Physiology or Medicine, visited Oslo on September 6. He gave a lecture about a new era of medicine with induced pluripotent stem cells – iPS cells – and participated in a panel discussion on implications of stem cell therapy for patients and society. UiO:Life Science plans the launch of the SPARK innovation programme, developed by Stanford University. The goal is to get more innovation out of basic research. The other two European SPARK programs visit Oslo this summer to share their experiences, and one of UiO's PhD students will test the program's summer school in Japan.
The board of UiO:Life Science has decided to support the newly established School of Health Innovation at UiO, NTNU and Karolinska Institutet. With this UiO:Life Science wants to contribute to establish a new strong player in the UiO ecosystem of innovation.

UiO:Life Science is one of three large interdisciplinary strategic areas at UiO. A life sciences building, which is planned for completion in 2023, is a significant aspect of our work.
Quality assurance of the management base and cost estimates before the project is submitted to Parliament for approval and funding (QA2) of the planned life science building at UiO started August 16th according to the time schedule and is to be finished till Christmas.
At the 14th and 15th of September the Nordic Life Science Days is arranged in Stockholm. In the evening the 13th a Norwegian–Swedish networking is taking place at the Norwegian Embassy in Stockholm.
