First time setup of iPhone or iPad

Apple's devices are very easy to prepare, but it is required that you have access to the internet, either via Wifi, or via 4/5g on the phone. The guide deals with three scenarios, first-time setup for a new user, and two ways to transfer from an old iOS phone to a new one.

The setup assistant takes you through some mandatory and some optional settings. We do not describe all the choices here. You can skip many of the choices by pressing "Configure later". If you do not have an Apple ID, we recommend that you create one (You get the option in the setup). AppleID is free, and it is required to be able to install apps from the AppStore etc. If you create a new appleID, do not use your UiO email address to create the account. Use either the address Apple provides (@iCloud.com), or another private email address.
If you do not want to create an AppleID, you can still install apps from UiO's software service "Intelligent Hub".

Apple's instructions for this can be found at this link. They do not describe logging in with UiO username and password, but are very good and informative.

Initial setup of iPhone / iPad
? Start the device. If your device has a SIM card, insert this
? Follow the instruction and select "Configure manually" when this option appears.
? Continue in the assistant, and connect to Wifi if you are asked to do so.
? Select "Don't transfer apps and data". A picture then appears informing you that the phone is managed by UiO, press Next
? Log in with your UiO username and password.
? Choose a code to unlock your phone. (Minimum 4 digits)

Set up phone from backup.
? Start the new phone. Select language and country.
? When the "Quick Start" screen appears, select Configure Manually.
? Go ahead and connect to a wifi network.
? Choose whether you want to restore from iCloud or Mac/PC.
? When recovery from the backup is complete, a screen will appear informing that the device is managed by UiO. After that, you must log in with your UiO username and password.

Transfer from another iPhone with "Quick Start"
This requires that you have installed at least iOS 11 on your "old" phone, and that Bluetooth is turned on

? Start the new phone. Select language and country.
? When the "Quick Start" screen appears, Unlock the phone and place your old phone next to the new one.
? Follow the instructions on the screens
