Workspace One is an "Endpoint management and security platform", for Mac, iOS and Android clients at UiO. Endpoint Management includes several processes, including setup and preparation, monitoring, securing and updating endpoints.
This enables us to manage UiO's equipment fleet in an efficient and safe manner. We can automate processes such as setting up and configuring devices, and ensure that all devices have the necessary software and settings. In addition, we receive information about the devices, such as system versions and security information that helps us keep the devices and the IT environment of UiO safe.
Intelligent HUB and Managed Software Center
All enrolled devices will have "Intelligent HUB" installed. This is client software which, among other things, ensures the communication between the device and Workspace One. It also contains tools to show you which profiles, settings and resources UiO has installed on the device, as well as an "Appstore" for distributing software. The apps in "HUB" can be installed without a Play or AppleID account. On Macs, you will find some programs in the Intelligent Hub, but most of them can be found in the "Managed Software Center".
Zero Touch setup
On UiO purchased devices, the ownership is linked to UiO via registration in the "Apple School Manager" and "Android Zero Touch Portal" register. The supplier will register the device before it is shipped to UiO. This means that you, as a user, can receive a device in original, unbroken packaging, and that the device will automatically start the setup process, and receive software and settings from UiO's systems. It does not need hands-on from the IT department.
Administration scenarios
The majority of devices are dedicated "single-user" devices that are adapted for personal use, but we also have the option of setting up "shared devices". These are configured so that several users can log in and use them. Some desktop Macs are set up in this way, and anyone with a UiO account can then log on to these devices.
We also have the option to adapt the setup for a special purpose. This is used to a particular extent on tablets, for research purposes where tablets are used for data collection. READ MORE (Documentation not ready)
