If you are unlucky enough to forget your Mac's login password, you can still recover access to it by using the Mac's recovery key:
1. Start with logging at https://mobil.uio.no/mydevice
2. Go to Details
3. Choose More and then Security
4. Under Encryption you will find the Recovery Key for your computer
If this doesn't work or you don't see a recovery key, you can send a request to it-support@uio.no for help.
Note! To receive a recovery key from IT help, you must appear in person and present valid identification.
5. Write down or snap a picture of the key. It's valid for 15 minutes post viewing.
6. Power off the Mac that you have forgotten the password for. Power it on again by pressing and holding the power key. For older Macs you might have to press the power button or key while holding down Option-R. Keep holding until you see "Loading startup options" on screen, or a loading progress bar.
7. If you get a screen showing your hard drive and "Options", click Options. When the screen showing your account appears, click "Forgot all passwords?"
8. Enter the recovery key into the displayed text field and click Next. You will now be presented with the option to reset your login password. If the key is not accepted, try the entire procedure once more (including fetching the key). If it still does not work, contact IT support.
9 After having reset your password, restart the Mac and log in in the normal way.
