Make a backup
We recommend that employees who want to upgrade to macOS 12 Monterey to back up their data before upgrading. Remember that backup must be done in accordance with the current data storage guide at UiO. Contact your local IT department if you need assistance.
Mac App Store
Installing macOS 12 Monterey is done from the Mac App Store and requires you to have an Apple ID. If you do not have it, please contact the IT service.
Supported Macs
Each time Apple release a new version of macOS, support for some machine models disappears.
The following models can install macOS 12 Monterey:
- iMac - Late 2015 and newer
- MacBook Pro - Early 2015 and newer
- Mac Pro - Late 2013 and newer
- iMac Pro - 2017 and newer
- Mac mini - Late 2014 and newer
- MacBook Air - Earlier 2015 and newer
- MacBook - Early 2016 and later
macOS 10.14 and older OS versions
As of November 21, 2021, Apple has ended support for macOS 10.14. This means that macOS 10.14 does not get new functionality and that detected security holes are not fixed.
If you are running macOS 10.14 or an older version of macOS, please upgrade as soon as possible.
