How much e-mail do I have? How big is my mailbox?

Everyone at UiO must keep their email tidy and delete as much as possible. According to the GDPR (personal data protection regulation), no information shall be kept longer than necessary, and this also applies to information in e-mail. The principles of data minimization and storage limitation mean that it is not permitted to store data longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. This means that when the purpose has been achieved, the information must be deleted. This implies the obvious, that information must be deleted at some point. The fact that information is "nice to have" is not sufficient to store it further. We ask you to comply with this privacy policy and delete all e-mail that you no longer need.

At UiO, we store huge amounts of data completely unnecessarily, and in addition it costs a lot of money and gives an increased climate footprint.

Important information must normally be located elsewhere than in e-mail to be useful, and information that is not important must be deleted.

3. Select General on the left of the screen that opens. Then click My account, and see how much you have in your email account at the bottom right of the window, under Mailbox usage. When you tidy and clean out your e-mail, it can be motivating to watch your account get smaller as you delete and move information out. Remember to empty the trash / recycling can / deleted items of your e-mail application to see the effect of deleting e-mail.
