More user-friendly and with enhanced security
All websites affiliated with UiO will be transferred to the new login system. It has been tested on the IT department's website for a time now, so if you want to try it before it comes to your website, you can go to usit.uio.no and log in there. Now, on June 20th, the transition will take place for uio.no, the faculty websites, Canvas, and Panopto.
A new look
The login service will still be the UiO-developed Weblogin that we have been using for many years, but there are two new things you may notice: a new appearance and two-factor authentication..
This is what the login looks like today:
The new login will look like this:
Even though the appearance is new, you simply enter your UiO username and password and click the Sign in button as before.
Enhanced security
The new Weblogin also has two-factor authentication. Many IT services at UiO already have two-factor authentication, so this may not be something new for most people. What happens is that you have to confirm the login in an app to complete it. For the majority at UiO, this means that the Authenticator app on your mobile device will alert you, and you have to press OK there to proceed. It is also possible that you have a different authentication app or use SMS authentication.
Two-factor authentication provides increased security and protection against external attacks. If you have not set up two-factor authentication, you can read about it on the IT service page for two-factor authentication at UiO.
