Dropbox is one of the most popular and used collaboration tools for file sharing and storage. Dropbox has now entered into a hada handler agreement with UiO, so from June 1, researchers and others with specific needs can get Dropbox with UiO login.
Who can get a UiO Dropbox?
Are you a researcher or staff member at the UiO and communicate and collaborate a lot outside of the UiO? Maybe you already use Dropbox in your work? Then you should get the UiO Dropbox. Keep in mind that you can not use your private Dropbox to store or share work-related information.
Why UiO Dropbox?
The fact that a data handler agreement between Dropbox and UiO has now has been signed, means that those who need storage and sharing in Dropbox can do this in accordance with the Norwegian privacy laws. If the data you save has protection needs, only UiO storage systems are approved and UiO Dropbox is now one of these approved systems. On the UiO Dropbox you can store information that is open or has limited protection needs.
Unfortunately, it's not free
UiO Dropbox is not a tool for everyone. It offers a lot of storage and storage in Europe, whereas the free versions have less space and storage in the United States. This means that if you want to use the service at UiO, you must obtain approval from the nearest manager with the budget deployment authority. Once the your need has been established, the UiO Dropbox license can be registered and the service can be used. The cost is charged to the department or project once per year. The license is currently around NOK 310 per year.
Anyone who has a Dropbox Plus account registered at the UiO email address from before, will be refunded half the annual amount when they pass and become part of the UiO Dropbox.
