Video meetings in Teams
Teams is a part of Office 365, a recommended solution for the University of Oslo, used for collaboration such as document sharing, task scheduling and (video)chat. You can use Teams directly in your browser or you can install it on your computer, tablet or phone. Video meetings in Teams will replace Skype for Business some time in the near future.
Teams can also be used for video meetings (video chat). To do that, follow the steps below:
- Open Teams. (Open the Office 365 site and click on the Teams icon or find Teams on your computer.) Teams video meetings can be used from the Microsoft Edge browser (included with Windows 10) or as an installed application (both Mac and Windows). If you do not have Teams installed, you can download Teams from Microsoft and install on your device. Log in with username@uio.no and you will be taken to the UiO login.
- Click the chat icon to the left of the window (looks like a speech bubble) .
- Click a contact in the contact list, or add a new email address. To add a new address, click on the three dots next to the Favorites heading. You can also add users who do not work or study at UiO. And you do not need to worry about which video conferencing solution they use, because the invitation will take them to Teams anyway to join your meeting, as long as they have Teams installed or have the Edge browser installed (included with Windows 10)
- Once you have clicked a contact, select the action with the symbols at the top right (see picture below). Click on the video camera to start a video meeting. Click on the icon with people on and a + sign to add more participants. If you add participants who do not have Teams, they will receive an email with a link they can click to join the meeting.
- If you want to show a presentation or other to the other meeting participants, you open what you want to show and click "Share" in the meeting controls (symbol # 3 in the picture above). Read more about screen sharing in Teams on the Microsoft website.
