NVivo: Frequently Asked Questions

I cannot log in to NVivo

Login in NVivo is only for services that UiO does not have access to, so unless you have purchased personal access to these services, you do not need to log in.

Can I share the NVivo project with someone else and collaborate on coding?

Yes, but then you both need to work in the same file and only one person can work on the project/file at a time. The file also cannot be stored in a cloud service while being worked on, but you can share it via email/OneDrive as long as you save the file locally on your computer when working on it, and upload it again when you're done. Read more about it here:

Where do I find the license key?

You can find the license key on the winprog page where you downloaded the program. The license key will only work for the version that UiO has a license for, so make sure you are using the correct version of NVivo.

I'm using NVivo in Program Kiosk, where are my files?

In the Program Kiosk, you only have access to some selected file locations. Read more here:

How do I import Excel files?

To import Excel files, select Survey (not Files). It's important to note that these file types cannot be edited in NVivo after they are imported. Therefore, it's recommended to review the file and ensure that everything is correct and removing any redundant information before importing it.

I can't find a file folder when I want to import from it

If you are sure you're in the right file location, see if it is a compressed folder (.zip). If it is, you'll need to extract it first. Open the folder and select "Extract all." This will give you a regular copy of the folder that can be opened and imported into NVivo.
