Guides for classification and storage of data

Learn how to classify and store data in accordance to UiO rules and Norwegian data protection laws.

What are the guides for classification and storage of data?

The University of Oslo manages large amounts of electronic information. There are many types of such information resources, and much of this information is valuable, sensitive, or otherwise worthy of protection.

To ensure that information does not go astray, UiO has a guide that tells you how to classify information into categories. The categories are:

  • Green (open information)
  • Yellow (restricted information)
  • Red (confidential information)
  • Black (strictly confidential information)

In following this information classification, you must also know where to store information with different protection needs. Therefore, we also have a data storage guide where you can find the appropriate storage location for the different information classes.

Everyone at UiO should know what kind of information they are processing and where it can be stored.

Both the information classification and the storage guide are parts of the "Information Security Management System" (LSIS) at UiO (available in Norwegian only: ?Ledelsessystem for informasjonssikkerhet?).
