Setup two-factor authentication with SMS

It is possible to set up an alternative authentication method with SMS for those who can not use the authentication app on the phone.

To start the setup process, go to the website https://aka.ms/setupmfa and do the following:

  1. Sign in to Microsoft 365 with your username@uio.no and click Next.Screenshot of Sign in to MS 365
  2. You will see now see the sign-in page. Type your username@uio.no and password. Click Sign in.Screenshot of UiO Sign in

If you are asked if you want to stay signed in, you can click yes.

  1. You will now see the More information Needed-dialog. Click Next to start the activation process.Screenshot: Need more information
  2. Choose I want to set up a different method.

  3. From the drop-down menu, select Phone.

  4. Select country Norway, enter your mobile phone number and select Send code in message before finally pressing Next.

  5. Enter the code you receive on your phone to confirm the setup and press Next.
  6. Once the confirmation is approved, you will see a message indicating that your mobile phone is now registered. Then, click Next.
  7. Click Done to complete.

Test the setup

You can check if the SMS setup is correct by logging in to to https://office.com in your browser.
