Whether one calls it Jugendstil or Art Nouveau, the Historical Museum is unmistakably characterized by the curved lines that dominated around the turn of the last century. Henrik Bull gave the building its form and architectural details in the style of the time. But what about the color palette inside the museum? It is often said that Jugendstil was characterized by muted colors and a fair amount of green. Does this hold true for the Historical Museum as well—and what traces can we see of it today, nearly 125 years after it was completed in 1902?
Art historian Bj?rn Vidar Johansen takes us on a walk through the museums architecture and into the university's history.
