Admission to Norwegian for Academics (NORAIN) Summer Session

When to apply

    Courses starting in June

    • The application portal S?knadsweb is now closed.
    • The application period is from January 2 to  March 1.

    1. Requirements for Admission

    • You must meet the basic admission requirements for higher education in Norway (except the Norwegian requirements).
    • You must document specific English language requirements.
    • Some countries also have specific documentation requirements.
    • Applicants residing outside of Norway/EU/EEA can apply for a regular visitor's visa to Norway (if required). If you have visa questions, these must be addressed to the UDI, not the UiO.

    2. Determine your level

    Applying for NORA0110IN:  No previous knowledge of Norwegian language is necessary for this beginner's course.

    Applying for NORA0120IN All four parts (speaking, listening, reading and writing) of the Norwegian test must be passed with level A2. If you have attended a Norwegian level A2 course outside of the UiO (such as "Norskpr?ven" with level A2 or a Norwegian language course at another accredited university), documentation of this must be uploaded to S?knadsweb or sent to us before the first week of class. If you have taken another Norwegian language course at another institute or faculty at UiO that give letter grades, you must have at least a D on all parts of the exam(s) in order to enroll in NORA0120. Students who fail to document their A2 level will be demoted to level I.

    Applying for NORA0130IN:  All four parts (speaking, listening, reading and writing) of the Norwegian test must be passed with level B1. If you have attended a Norwegian level B1 course outside of the UiO ("Norskpr?ven" with level B1 or a Norwegian language course at another accredited university), documentation of this must be uploaded to S?knadsweb or sent to us before the first week of class. If you have taken another Norwegian language course at another institute or faculty at UiO that give letter grades, you must have at least a D on all parts of the exam(s) in order to enroll in NORA0130. Students who fail to document their B1 level will be demoted to level II or level I.

    3. The course fee and how to pay

    • Course fees for NORA0110INNORA0120IN and NORA0130IN are listed under "Admission to the course" / "Opptak til emnet" on the course pages.

    • Full payment is required, a payment plan is not possible. Please make sure that your budget can accommodate the course fees before you apply. Prices are subject to change on a year-to-year basis.
    • Make sure you understand the cancellation policy before applying.

    Please note: Students in NORA courses and NORAIN courses are not eligible for student loans by L?nekassen.

    4. Log in to the application portal

    The application deadline is March 1. The application will open on January 2. 

    • The application portal is now closed for NORAIN courses. S?knadsweb will be open from January 2 to March 1.
    • If you have already applied: Gather all the required documents, and upload them in the application portal "S?knadsweb" within the application deadline. Instructions on how to upload your documents.
    • All qualified applicants who submit a complete application by the deadline, are guaranteed admission.

    Former or current NORA or UiO students who have already uploaded documents online in the application portal S?knadsweb:

    You still need to choose your course in the application portal S?knadsweb, but if you can still see your documents there you are not required to upload any documents again.

    5. Get your application results

    We will begin sending out admission letters by email from March.

    The payment information will be sent in your admission letter.
