Programme structure

The Honours Certificate is a one-year programme, in total 20 ECTS credits. The programme runs parallel with your master programme at your home university. 

The Honours Certificate consists of two courses, each worth 10 ECTS credits.

Understanding Key Concepts in Social and Political Life (ISSMF4210):

Start of teaching: October 3, 2024. 

Teaching sessions will be held on Thursdays from 4-6pm. In total eight teaching sessions. 

The course will consist of a series of hybrid (online & face-to-face) research seminars. The seminars will be delivered face to face for students and staff in the partner institution delivering the seminar on any given week and online for the remaining cohort of students in other partners institutions. Students in each institution will meet in person to join an online seminar, accompanied by the key contact at the institution, who will be in charge of facilitating discussion and supervising student progress. Students will work towards a presentation to be delivered online to the entire cohort in the last week of the course.  

Corpus-driven Conceptual Datathons (ISSMF4220):

Start of teaching: March 6, 2025. 

The course includes 4 online workshops, followed by an intensive, face-to-face student-driven datathon, The datathon will be held locally at each partner university over three days. 

Face-to-face datathon:  14, 15 and 16th April  2025.

The module incorporates online workshops and student driven activities. The teaching will start with guided workshops and, as the students become familiar with the corpora and the tools, they will continue working in student-driven collaborative sessions. The final session will consist of an in-person, collaborative datathon where students will work together to analyze and interpret the data collected.  

Diploma and certificate

Successful completion of required courses leads to the following certificate: Honours Certificate in Concepts that matter – Debating Democracy. 

The diploma is issued when you have completed the courses that meet the requirements for the certificate. Read more about diplomas.
