This programme option is for students who want to develop expertise on contemporary Chinese society and politics. It is anchored in empirical research and theoretical analysis, and is taught by internationally recognised scholars on various facets of contemporary China.
As a student you will engage in studies of topics crucial for understanding Chinese society, its path of development and current challenges, and its evolving position in the world. This includes migration and rural-urban divisions, the political system, media and the public sphere, changes in family structure, religious practice, education, ethnic relations, environmental governance, and the globalisation of China.
You will engage with relevant theories and apply research methodologies, including fieldwork, necessary for both your studies and professional career. In addition to lectures and seminars, the program offers workshops such as the ”Academic Survival Kit” and ”How to Start Your China Career”. These are aimed at helping you find your way into professional life. There is also ample opportunity to spend parts of your master abroad.
