Norwegian courses for international students
As a part of the one-year program, students can choose to attend Norwegian courses for international students offered by the Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies.
In addition, the department offers a Norwegian life and Society course to international students, which gives some insight into Norwegian way of life and Norwegian identity.
Course options for beginners:
- NORINT0110: This is a full level 1 course taught on campus with in-person attendance. Students who passes the exam can register for a level 2 course next semester.
You can apply to 2025 spring semester Norwegian courses from December 3. Application deadline is January 16 in Studentweb. If you have prior knowledge in Norwegian, please take the placement test. Please find further information here: Norwegian Courses for International Students - Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies
Courses in culture, languages and social sciences
We highly recommend the above mentioned Norwegian courses, please register for them in your Studentweb.
You can also be registered to courses within Educational Sciences, Humanities, Law and Social Sciences. This needs to be done manually.
For students admitted spring 2025:
Please contact student counsellor Monica Lund Haugom as soon as you have been accepted to the programme in order to make plans for the courses you would like to attend in the spring semester 2025. You can make an appointment with her by sending an email to hf-studieinfo@hf.uio.no. Please write from your UiO-student-email, or write your student number and full name.
Before meeting up with the student counsellor, you can consider courses taught in English with a course code on a 1000-level, on some occasions 2000-level will be available to you. 3000-level is only available for students on a bachelor’s programme, and 4000-level is only available to master’s students.
Prerequisite knowledge
Courses may require prior knowledge. If you do not already qualify, you have to pass one or more courses before you can continue on another course. This may influence the order in which you can register for these courses. See the course page for information about prerequisite knowledge.
