The University of Iceland, May 23-27, 2016

The Erasmus+ program Gender and Philosophy welcomes you to its first summer school "Philosophy of the Body," held in Reykjavi?k, Iceland, May 2016. The body is one of the grand topics of contemporary philosophy, where traditional dichotomies such reason/emotion, nature/culture and feminine/masculine have been questioned and problematized, yielding a richer and a more complex idea of the human subject. The summer school is a great opportunity for students interested in contemporary analytical and phenomenological theories of the body, and training in embodied thinking as a new method for strengthening philosophical creativity, intuition and finding what is truly one ?s own thinking. The training in embodied thinking is based on Eugene Gendlin ?s methods of "Focusing" and "Thinking at the Edge" in relation to philosophy. Students will learn to harness their own embodied resources for thinking, also by focusing in Iceland’s breathtaking nature.
