We recommend that you spend one (or two) of the semesters during which you have a few mandatory courses, abroad.
When can I go?
Which semester you should take abroad will depend on the programme option you are following. For most program options the preferred semester to go on exchange is the second semester (spring semester). The exchange should be organised in cooperation with your supervisor so you may select courses that are relevant to your master's programme. It may also be possible to work on your master thesis at one of our partner institutions.
Where can I go?
We recommend the following exchange agreements:
- Université Grenoble Alpes, France
- Université de Strasbourg, France
- ETH Zürich, Switzerland
- Università degli Studi di Catania, Italy
Our students may also have a study stay at The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS), which is the world's northernmost institution for higher education and research. UNIS is located in Longyearbyen 78°N.
Would you like to go somewhere else?
See the complete list of exchange agreements at the Department of Geosciences and the faculty’s list of student exchange options, or the university’s exchange agreements. You may also study abroad at your own initiative, independent of any of the University of Oslo’s agreements.
Studies at Svalbard
Students in Geosciences at UiO have the oppertunity to take courses at The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS). Many of students have a short or longer study stay at UNIS, summer, spring, or in the autumn. The University Centre offers many exciting courses in geosciences. Here you will also meet an international community with students and researchers from all over the world.
