Postponed submission deadline with valid documentation

Postponed submission deadline implies that your submission deadline will be postponed within the current semester. 

If you, due to illness, need to postpone your submission to the next semester, it may be applicable to apply for reduced study progression or leave of absence

Postponed submission deadline

  • Postponed individual deadline within the current semester is granted only in exceptional cases, and requires an application with valid documentation, such as a medical certificate confirming illness a certain time period preferably close to the submission deadline.
  • Maximum postponed deadline is normally 2 weeks after the standard submission deadline.
  • Normally you will not be granted a postponed deadline on an already postponed deadline.

The following does not qualify for a postponed deadline

  • Short period of illness (less than 1 week) more than one month before the deadline.
  • Unexpected problems in relation to fieldwork, interviews and similar circumstances.
  • Honorary posts and paid employment, even if relevant to the master’s thesis topic.

How to apply for a postponed submission deadline

Notify the department in an application form and upload your documentation: application form. Make sure to notify your student advisor. 

You must upload a medical certificate as documentation. It must specify time period and degree of illness. Please contact your student advisor or info-master@sai.uio.no for more information and guidance regarding documentation. 

A student who does not complete the master?s thesis within the standard time (2 years) can postpone submission of the thesis without documentation. 

Submit your thesis in both Inspera and DUO (StudentWeb). It is not possible to submit your thesis before the deadline for withdrawal from examination

  • You must be registered, signed up for ANTH4090 and have paid the semester fee within the deadline the same semester as you hand in your thesis.
  • Send an e-mail to: info-master@sai.uio.no so the administration can add one semester to your study plan, enabling you to register for ANTH4090 in your Studentweb. 
  • Fill out the web form 'Reporting form: Master thesis and oral exam Semester Year' no later than the mid-term deadline which will be announced in Canvas.
