Transforming Higher Education: Circle U. in Action

Circle U. is a European university alliance that serves as a platform for testing innovative educational concepts, renewing study portfolios, and strengthening international collaboration across its nine participating universities.

This session will examine how Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs), which combine short-term physical mobility with collaborative online learning, can foster innovative and sustainable teaching formats. Participants will hear firsthand from a student who has participated in a BIP, offering reflections on learning, collaboration, and building academic networks across institutions. The session will also address hybrid teaching practices, highlighting lessons learned and discussing approaches to creating more inclusive, engaging, and flexible learning environments in an international context. By the end of the session, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to engage with Circle U., draw inspiration from practical experiences, and explore ways to integrate international and hybrid approaches into their own teaching.

Contributions by

  • Dan Banik, Professors and Academic Director of the Democracy Hub at Circle U
  • Marthe Landmark, Student at Department of Political Science
  • Paola Soto Batista, Student at  Department of Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies

You as an Educator – Teaching with Confidence

This is a practical session for educators who want to become more confident in managing the dynamics of the classroom. We will look at how you can balance giving students space, handling questions, and creating a good flow in the teaching situation that benefits both you and your students. The goal is to provide you with tools to be a confident leader in the room, so that you can support students in the best possible way.

Learn to Learn: Building Skills, Aligning Expectations, and Supporting STEM Student Success

The "Learn to Learn" iEarth project is an initiative designed to improve student retention and success in STEM education through targeted academic skill development and interdisciplinary collaboration. The session will present key findings on how student retention, attitudes, and skills evolve over the first year of university; the alignment between student, faculty, and industry expectations; and the design and effectiveness of active skill-building interventions.

The workshop will give educators insight into the challenges students face during their first year and offer tools to support skill development in their own courses. Activities will include small-group reflection on real student scenarios, collaborative discussion on integrating skill prompts into existing course structures, and a guided exercise on redesigning one assignment or teaching moment to explicitly support skill-building. These activities are designed to be practical, adaptable, and immediately relevant to participants’ teaching contexts.

Location: Georg Sverdrups hus, tbc

The conference is organised by LINK in close collaboration with the faculties, the Pedagogical Academy, the University Library, the Student Parliament, and the management at UiO.

UiO's photographers will be present to document the event for potential later use in UiO's official channels.
