A History of Bombing: Aerial Bombardment from 1911 to the Present

This course will give an overview of the development of aerial bombing, from the early twentieth century to the present day. It will outline how bombing became an integral part of modern warfare, and the profound effect it had in reshaping the relationship between the military and civilian spheres in wartime. It will address the strategic bombing campaigns, the development of ballistic missiles, civil defence against bombing, the use of bombing as a police action, and also current developments in drone warfare.
