LAT1401 – Caesar
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
Course content
We read excerpts from Caesars De bello Gallico (20-30 pages, * depending on the level of difficulty).
* 1 page is defined as 1 page in Teubner / Oxford Classical Texts.
Learning outcome
After completing the course you will be able to:
- Translate the syllabus texts into Norwegian and interpret them
- Grammatically analyze the syllabus texts with emphasis on syntax
- Master the central vocabulary of the texts
- Understand the texts within a historical and cultural framework
Admission to the course

Formal prerequisite knowledge
- LAT1001 – Innf?ring i latin I or LAT4001 – Innf?ring i latin I for masterstudenter
- LAT1002 – Innf?ring i latin II
(Or equivalent education - please contact the student advisor if you need an evaluation of your previous education in Latin)
Teaching
7 double sessions of seminars in the first half of the semester.
The teaching method requires active participation and we expect you to meet prepared for the seminars.
In order for you to be able to present yourself for the exam, the following compulsory tuition activity must be approved by the teacher:
- oral presentation (10 minutes) of a given topic
Approved compulsory tuition activity is also valid the next two times the course is offered.
Examination
4 hour written examination.
School examinations/written examinations are carried out in the digital examination system Inspera. You must familiarize yourself with the implementation of the digital exam in Inspera. Read more about digital school exams.
Compulsory tuition activity must be approved in order for you to be able to sit for the exam.
Examination support material
No examination support material is allowed.
Language of examination
You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English. If you would prefer to have the exam text in English, you may apply to the course administrators.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
