ILN4200 – Research project in Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies

Course content

For a workload of 10 ECTS, you are interning in a professional research project. This will be approximately 12,5 hours per week, or in more concentrated periods throughout the term, as suitable.

At the start of the term, the involved parts will agree on how the work in the project will be organized, and a practice agreement is signed. The project leader will supervise you throughout your involvement in the research project.?

You'll take part in the ordinary research work for the project, and preform specific assignments as arranged with the project manager.

The project manager must make sure that there are relevant and varied jobs in the project for the student, which will provide the student with insights into project-based research and what may be expected of a researcher.

Learning outcome

When you have completed this course, it is expected that you have:? ?

  • Competence within the theme for their semester assignment
  • experience with reflecting on project work in light of academic theory
  • Work-experience from a research project.
  • Experience with both independent and team-based work in a research project.
  • Experience in planning and seeing through a project (in relations to the term paper).
  • An increased awareness of their own academic competence and skill.

You apply for admission to this course by requesting an approval of your engagement in a research project. The research internship must be relevant for your study programme.?

The application is to be directed, in writing, to the course study consultant, and must contain general information about yourself and the research project you wish to take part of, as well as outlining your motivation for applying.?The application should be approx. one typed page. In addition to the application, submit your CV and transcript of grades.

The study consultant forwards the application to research leader of the pertinent research project. The leader of the research project decides whom they wish to engage in the project.

Formal prerequisite knowledge

A prerequisite of admission to this course is that 30 ECTS of your masters’ programme must be completed before the research term.

Overlapping courses

Teaching

The course does not have ordinary teaching. Teaching is given in the form of supervision conducted by the project leader of the research project.

A written qualifying assignment of c. 2 pages (2300 signs without spaces per page) must be submitted latest c. 1 month before examination. Here, you must evaluate your own contribution and progress, and the aim with the assignment is to increase your understanding of your own academic competences and skills. The qualifying assignment is evaluated with accepted/ not accepted.

Examination

One qualifying assignment must be submitted and accepted in the same semester to be able to take the exam for this course.

Examination is a semester assignment of c. 10 pages (2300 words without spaces per page). Form and content of the paper is to be agreed between student and project leader at the start of the term and specified in the agreement signed at the start.

Language of examination

You may submit your response in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a pass/fail scale. Read more about?the grading system.

Resit an examination

A term paper or equivalent that is passed may not be resubmitted in revised form.

If you?withdraw from the exam?after the deadline, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
