This semester, we will study linguistic structure and form in an interactional framework. We will first study the basic organizations of social interaction, and look at how interaction shapes linguistic structures. We will then take a look at how linguistic structure and form (sentences, clauses, phrases, clause-combinations and particles) function as resources for organizing social interaction. In the end of the course, the students should have an understanding of language as a form for social interaction, and of how Interactional Linguistics relate to other linguistic theories. They should also be able to analyze selected linguistic phenomena in an interactional framework.
