With several Nobel Prize winners -Juan Ramón Jiménez, Vicente Alexandre, Pablo Neruda, Gabriela Mistral, Octavio Paz- and key figures of "world literature" such as Federico García Lorca and César Vallejo, poetry in Spanish experienced a peak during the 20th century. At present, the production of Mario Montalbetti, Diana Bellesi, Olvido García Valdés, or Raúl Zurita are evidence that poetry in Spanish has not lost its forcefulness, but it has lost recognition from the public, institutions, and the transnational market that are rather focused on the novel. SPA2314/4314 will be dedicated to the study of some central poetics of the 20th and 21st centuries to venture answers to the question about the crisis of its power of interpellation.
