MUS2830 ¨C Interactive music

Course content

This course provides students with knowledge and skills in designing, building, and performing with various types of musical instruments and interactive music systems.

You learn general principles for:

• musical instrument design
• human-computer interaction
• new musical instruments
• to work with interactive music in various settings

Admission to the course

Overlapping courses

• 5 credits overlap with MUS2840 ¨C Lydprogrammering 1 (discontinued).

Teaching

• 12 one hour lectures
• 12 two hours seminars

Compulsory activities

• Four qualifying assignments
• A practical semester project that will be presented at a demo-concert at the end of the semester.

Information about the assignments and the deadlines will be given during the teaching and in Canvas. You have to hand in the assignments within the deadlines, and you are responsible for familiarising yourself with the requirements for the compulsory activities.

Approved compulsory activities are valid the next two times the course is given. All compulsory activities must be approved in order for you to sit the exam. You are responsible for keeping track of any absences, and for checking that you have everything approved.

This is how you apply for a valid absence from compulsory activity/compulsory attendance.

Examination

• A practical project accompanied by a term paper of 10 pages (around 2,300 characters per page, not including spaces) with title and topic to be approved by the course tutor.

You have to fulfill the requirements of the compulsory activities to sit the exam.

Language of examination

The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.
