Pensum

You can use the following resources for the course.

1. The slides. PDF versions of all slides from the lectures and the group sessions are provided in this folder. The slides are typically provided shortly after each lecture. You can have a look at earlier semesters to see all the slides that were used before (but updates will be made).

2. The manual (PDF) for the assignments contains useful information, especially for starting with the data analysis as part of the assignment.

3. The textbooks listed here can be helpful for in-depth study. Please note that there is no single text book that covers all aspects of the course in adequate extent and depth.

  • New Millennium Solar Physics. Aschwanden, Markus J, Cham, Springer International Publishing AG, 458, 2019. Available online at UiO (oria)
  • Introduction to stellar astrophysics. (Stellar atmospheres). Bohm-Vitense, Erika, Cambridge University Press, 2, 2010-02-08. Available online at UiO (oria).

Further reading (specialised):

  • Magnetohydrodynamics of the Sun. E. R. Priest. 2014. Available online at UiO (oria).

4. Scientific articles, which can be found by using NASA's Astrophysics Data System (ADS). You can use articles mentioning in the lectures and the manual (see items 1+2) as starting point to explore the relevant literature.
