Friday's lecture (November 13) canceled

Dear All, since most of you are stressed with the coming deadline, I would like to propose that we postpone today's lecture on support vector machines to next Thursday. Thus, the lecture of Friday November 13 is cancelled.  

We will reconvene next Thursday (November 19) and cover support machines (today's topic).

In project 3, we encourage you to select data sets which may be closer to your own research and/or interests.  The project has also a suggested topic on solving differential equations using deep learning methods like neural networks. 

If you have some specific data set you would like to study for project 3 or have ideas you would like to present, feel free to send us an email.  And if possible, you could present these ideas (10-15 mins) during the lecture next Friday (November 20).  This means that we could use parts of the lecture next Friday to present project ideas for project 3, and perhaps some of your fellow participants would like to join you.

Please send me your proposals for project 3 by Wednesday next week (November 18) and indicate whether you are interested in presenting your proposal during the lecture of Friday 20.
