FYS2280 – Space Technology

Course content

This is an international field course where practical work and experiments are conducted at And?ya Space

The course gives you practical experience in different tasks conducted in connection with the launching of scientific sounding rockets. During the course, the students will work together in designated groups by preparing and executing a launch of a student rocket, including instruments (experiments as payload). Data from the measurement instruments will be analysed and presented in a post-flight meeting.

Learning outcome

After completing the course you can:

  • describe the different phases of a scientific rocket project: defining scientific objective, building sensors, payload integration and testing, telemetry, data analysis and presentation of findings.
  • explain one of the following areas in depth: payloads, telemetry, experiments.
  • describe how scientific sounding rockets, balloons, and ground-based instrumentation can be used to study processes in the atmosphere.
  • communicate and reflect with other students through group work.

Teaching

The course's main part will be conducted as a field course (5 to 6 days) at And?ya Space.
