Exercise blog
This fascinating pattern is an example of diffusion-limited aggregation in 3D created by Paul Bourke.
This is the exercise blog of FYS4130. The idea is to facilitate communication between students and teachers of this course outside of teaching hours. Sometimes you just do not want to wait to have your frustration vented, anxiety relieved or curiosity rewarded by insight; in these cases, this blog is the place to post questions and comments and get responses from Eirik and Luiza, as well as the other fellow students.
A derivation of Eq. (5.48) (lecture notes) for the average number of photons can be found here.
This week exercises are 4.15, 4.24 and 5.7 from Yuri's exercise book.
Solutions to previous problems can be found here
This week exercises are on fluctuations in an equilibrium ensemble: 5.2, 5.5, 5.6 and 5.9 (hint: Use binomial distribution) from Yuri's exercise book.
This week exercises are 4.8, 4.9, 4.12, and 4.13 from Yuri's exercise book.
This week topic is about microcanonical, canonical and grand canonical statistical ensembles The exercises are 4.3, 4.5, 4.6, and 4.7 from Yuri's exercise book.
Problem sets will normally be posted on Mondays. Problems will be solved in the tutorial session the following Monday, first time January 21.
This week we focus on statistical ensembles of non-interacting particles and distributions of microscopic states. The exercises are 4.19, 4.20, 4.21, 4.23 and 4.26 from Yuri's exercise book.
Welcome to the blog! Here we post about the topic of the weekly lectures and the problem set for the weekly tutorials. Enjoy and please leave a message if you have any other requests.
