FYS9750 – Medical Imaging
Course content
A comprehensive overview of all major diagnostic modalities used in radiology and nuclear medicine. The course provides an introduction to both clinical and technical aspects and covers applications in all the major organ systems: brain, heart, abdomen and muscle-skeleton. An introduction to ongoing research and new developments in the different modalities and techniques will be given. The course will be given by a multi-disciplinary group of lecturers with background in clinical radiology, nuclear medicine, informatics, medical physics and radiation protection.
Learning outcome
After taking this course the participants will have a basic understanding in the following areas:
- Knowledge of basic principles for medsical imaging based using advanced image modalities: MRI, CT, Ultrasound and PET-CT
- Knowledge of data analysis, image processing and post processing techniques for the different modalities
- Knowledge of technological similarities and differences between the different modalities and choice of equipment for different clinical applications
- Knowledge of ionizing radiation related risks and radiation protection principles in medical imaging
- Knowledge of new applications and technology trends for the different modalities
- Knowledge on how to analyse and assess a scientific article
Admission
PhD candidates from the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through Studentweb.
If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.
PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must apply for a position as a visiting student within a given deadline.
To participate in this course, admission to a Ph.D programme at a Norwegian university or University college is necessary. PhD candidates from other Norwegian institutions participating in the course may apply for a travel- and accommodation grant from MedIm - Norwegian Research School in Medical Imaging.
